Parents / Spectators have a great influence on children’s enjoyment and success in football. All children play football because they first and foremost love the game – it’s fun. We should all remember that however good a child becomes at Rothwell Town Football Club, it is important to reinforce the message to parents / spectators that positive encouragement will contribute to:
  • Children enjoying football.
  • A sense of personal achievement.
  • Self-esteem.
  • Improving the child’s skills and techniques.
A Parent’s / Spectator’s expectations and attitudes have a significant bearing on a child’s attitude towards:
  • Other players.
  • Officials.
  • Managers.
  • Spectators.
All Parents / Spectators of Rothwell Town should ensure they are always positive and encouraging towards all of the children not just their own. Rothwell Town will require all parents / spectators to:
  • Applaud the opposition as well as Rothwell Town.
  • Avoid coaching any child during the game either from the touchline or behind the goal.
  • Not to shout and scream. Remember children are involved in football for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Respect the referee’s decision and encourage your child to play to the laws of the game and not to argue with referees or other officials.
  • Give attention to each of the children involved in football not just the most talented.
  • Teach your child that honest endeavour is more important than winning, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
  • Never force an unwilling child to participate in football.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal, physical, threatening, abusive, racist and foul language from children’s football.
  • Read the laws of the game to understand better what you are commenting on.
  • Respect and take care of any clothing or kit which is loaned to your child from Rothwell Town so that he/she can participate.
Rothwell Town will take every effort to ensure that parents / spectators within the club agree and adhere to this club’s Code of Conduct and Child Protection Policy.
